Video Above: Yao Sifu, 80, plays Three Door Form One can see obvious similarities in all branches of southern mantis including Chu Gar and Iron Ox, but particularly among the Jook Lum that was taught by Chung Yel Chong. The old 3 form in Kwongsai and Chu Gar Mantis begins on the left foot step for the same reason one should enter a brother's home on the left foot!
Yao, now aged more than 90 in 2011, related many incidents of the past, especially regarding Chu Gar Gao and Jook Lum Tanglang. In the 1940's, Yao and Wong Yook Gong went to Lao Sui's Chu Gar School to pay a friendly visit.
He also attended the opening day ceremony of the late Chu Gar teacher, Chu Kwong Hua's, school. Chu Kwong Hua was the successor of Lao Sui (Refer to 1962 Mantis Society in the Survey eBook ). Yao was asked to demonstrate the "Ng Dim Gun" staff set but declined and demonstrated only the "Som Men" three gate set.
